The right fit: An employer’s perspective on how Staffing With a Purpose helps find the best people for the job
When Mike Haun needs to find quality employees for the company he works for, the first place he looks is Corners Outreach’s Staffing With a Purpose.
“The caliber of people that Corners brings us is consistent,” Mike said. “They’re conscientious, they care, they go to a job with a purpose and they try their best.”
Mike said his company prides itself on being one that cares deeply about its employees and seeks to create an environment where people want to stay long-term.
He said some people have been with the company for decades, and have a comfortable quality of life — putting their children through college, owning their own homes, going on vacations.
“When I speak with candidates, I tell them, ‘You might have just been looking for a job, but you may have found a career,’” Mike said, adding that his company works to help its employees reach their career goals.
That commitment to employee well-being aligns with the values Staffing With a Purpose operates by too, making the partnership effective.
Billy Torres, the recruiting director at Staffing with a Purpose program, said the process for connecting job seekers with employers is intentional and methodical. A person can’t just walk into Corners and expect to be put in a job the next day. At the same time, Corners staff vet companies that Staffing With a Purpose works with.
“We make sure it’s a job or career where they can grow within the company, a place where they can go to work and feel welcome and feel valued,” Billy said. “We want to make sure that it’s a structured schedule and sustainable wages. We want to make sure that the person feels motivated and wants to go to work. We really focus on getting them the right job the first time.”
Billy said that Corners staff will spend considerable time listening to job seekers to help them find a job that is a good fit for them.
“We want to get to know you. We want to make sure that you’re ready to interview. We want to take the time to make sure that you are best equipped with the tools for success,” Billy said.
That deliberate process has helped Mike through a season of high turnover and has helped him hire quality employees as the company grows to meet the increasing demand for its products.
Currently, about 25% of his workforce has come through Staffing With a Purpose.
“We got so many people who were exactly what we were looking for,” Mike said. “I think Corners Outreach offers a lot of great services, they make the world a better place and they make the community stronger.”
