I was born here in the states but grew up in Mexico until I was 6 years old. I had to learn to speak English and adjust to the culture. This is something the families at Corners Outreach go through as well. I am able to support and encourage our students to learn English as their second language and be a support system to their families.

I am a proud Georgia Peach, born and raised, and an even prouder Mexican-American. I have 8 years in child care experience and it has created a dedication for children's success as students, but even more importantly as successful people. I am truly blessed that my life has created a pathway to Corners where I can invest my life into our students' lives. I want to be their pillar!

I enjoy working for an organization like Corners Outreach because of the unique ways we have found to serve the Atlanta community.

Corners outreach provides purpose, motivation, mentorship, and education to students who, like me, have faced the struggles of moving throughout their lives and the plight of poverty. Corners does a wonderful job of serving the entire family. With the encouragement of Corners exceptional team, I have been able to volunteer my gifts and skills to our families over the last year. Because I identify with so many of the families we serve, I suggested the idea of furthering our service to include a musical education. Providing opportunities for our children to develop musical abilities continues to open the doors for them and their families!

I came to the US from Belgium at age 21, which was both exciting and daunting. Thankfully I was blessed with mentors who offered valuable tools to assist in my transition. Sadly, immigrant families in our community are often not given access to life-changing resources to allow them to succeed and thrive. I joined Corners Outreach to build solutions for sustainable employment and financial well-being for our families. With experience in workforce development and staffing, we can transform lives and be a conduit to hope, happiness and self-sufficiency.

While I grew up in low income (poverty), I was always told I could do anything or be anything and that education would allow that to occur. I was able to have a successful business career due to education and belief in working hard. I started Corners Outreach on that same belief. When I meet with our students and families, they need help on education so that they can be successful. Many of our parents work so many hours just to survive. I appreciate their attitude and work ethic, choosing contentment despite hard situations. Our students love learning. I wanted to find a way to help them while also helping our community.

Growing up, my family went through homelessness, food insecurity and always lived paycheck to paycheck, so I know the fear and anxiety this brings to a home. I was drawn to join the team at Corners because I trust the leadership and I believe in the innovative and collaborative work we are doing to help families succeed economically and educationally across our community. If I can help families not have to experience the pain my family went through, I’m all in!

Corners Outreach is a unique nonprofit because it began by meeting a basic need in the community. But instead of stopping there, they met need after need after need, and are now serving the community and beyond. Corners is transforming lives in children with individualized tutoring and mentoring, parents with increased job offerings and skills classes, and much more. I’m so thankful to be a small part of that difference.
